PHARMACOKINETIC DATA ANALYSIS & MODELING USING COMPUTERS //
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This course will be a unique learning opportunity for anyone desiring a thorough understanding of pharmacokinetic/ pharmacodynamic modeling and related data analysis techniques.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
//
-------------------------------------
To facilitate a better understanding of the temporal disposition of a drug in vivo, after its administration by whatever route, various 'models' may be invoked by the pharmacokinetic analyst. These models differ in complexity and utility varying from a single compartment to more complicated, but physiologically relevant, models which incorporate known blood flow rates through various organs.

Regardless of the efficiency of the model used, however, pharmacokinetic analysis is of limited value if no known link exists between the pharmacokinetic parameters obtained and a drug's specific effect(s). Thus, in recent years scientists have focused on the integration of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics. For both the basic and clinical pharmaceutical researcher an understanding of PK/PD modeling concepts is essential. (See Peck, et al., "Opportunities for Integration of Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacodynamics, and Toxicokinetics in Rational Drug Development", Pharmaceutical Research, 9, 826-833, 1992.)
